Stopping The Violence Women’s Counselling
Stopping The Violence (STV) Women’s Counselling is a free counselling service for women 19 years of age or older, who live in the Comox Valley or surrounding area, and who have previously experienced or are currently experiencing:
- violence of any kind (physical, emotional or psychological);
- sexual assault; or
- childhood abuse or violence.
The service is available to all women including trans women and gender non-binary persons, regardless of age, ethnicity, abilities, or sexual orientation.
Young women under 19 years of age and leading an adult lifestyle are also eligible for this program.
Counselling is short-term, typically between 8-10 sessions, which may be extended in some circumstances. The sessions are one hour long with the exception of the intake session, which takes approximately 30 minutes.
DUE TO COVID-19, we are offering counselling sessions by telephone, videoconference
or in person while practicing social distancing.
All group meetings are cancelled until further notice.

Group Counselling
(on hold)
As part of the STV Program, we offer Reclaiming Our Lives, a free, drop-in group that offers an opportunity to:
- know that you are not alone;
- gain information and support in a confidential setting; and
- choose when you want to come to group.
Our focus is on building knowledge and skills, rather than disclosure of personal trauma stories. Topics of discussion include:
- Abuse in relationships;
- Power and control;
- Impacts of abuse;
- Why women stay;
- Boundaries;
- Self-esteem;
- Safety planning;
- Trauma and PTSD.
Reclaiming Our Lives is a drop-in program offered weekly on Wednesdays, from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m., and is open to all women.
PLEASE NOTE: this program is currently on hold until such time it is safe for us to gather in large groups again.

You save our lives. You give us hope that we can survive and learn to let go, learn to love ourselves again, and grow. Thank you.
Thank you to all the wonderful, supportive women who helped me get through a very, very difficult time. I will never forget you.
