Volunteer Sexual Assault Response Team (VSART)
Why Volunteer?
Volunteering with the SAS program and CVTS offers volunteers a chance to help make a difference for survivors of sexualized violence in our community.
VSART volunteers participate in supporting survivors of sexualized violence during some of their darkest days.
Volunteering with the Sexual Assault Services Program provides you with the opportunity to:
- Support and empower survivors of sexualized violence.
- Contribute to and connect with our community.
- Develop new skills.
- Gain career-related experience.
These positions require trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approaches to supporting survivors. Volunteers will be supporting and witnessing survivors experiencing some of the worst days in their lives. Volunteers must hold space and act professionally in the best interest of each survivor and remember that each survivor is the expert of their own life.
Our objective is to inform and support.
Requirements for VSART
- Must be over 19 years old.
- Commit to volunteering for 1 full year.
- Commit to 30 hours of training over an 8 week period.
- Live in the Comox Valley area.
- Be available for on-call one full week (5:00 pm – 10:00 pm) and/or one full weekend (8:00 am – 10:00 pm) bi-monthly.
- This volunteer opportunity is open to Cis-women, Trans-women, Two-Spirit, and gender non-conforming people.

Volunteer selection process
- Initial interview
- Criminal Record Check/reference check
- Secondary interview
- Applicant must pass training.
