RCMP Victim Services

Based in the Courtenay RCMP Detachment, the Comox Valley RCMP Victim Services program works alongside the RCMP to provide support, information and referrals to victims of crime and trauma.

RCMP Victim Services offers the following supports/services to victims of crime:

Emotional Support

  • Assistance with understanding and mitigating the effects of trauma
  • Referrals and information on how to access community supports such as counselling
  • Crisis response and telephone follow-up after a critical incident
  • Assistance with reporting a crime
  • Safety planning

Information and Practical Assistance

Under the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights, and BC’s Victims of Crime Act, you have the right to receive information about the services available to you, such as:

  • Information and assistance in applying for financial benefits for victims of crime
  • Information about the criminal justice system, and other related legislation
  • Current information on the status of the police investigation, and criminal prosecution
  • Assistance with preparing or presenting a Victim Impact Statement in court
  • Assistance with requesting court ordered restitution from the offender 

Court Support

  • Accompaniment to court proceedings or meetings
  • Liaising with police and Crown Prosecutors
  • Court orientation and witness preparation
  • Court updates and outcomes
